The SuperStore of Williston, Vermont Announces Leadership Transition

The SuperStore in Williston, Vermont has announced the retirement of longtime General Manager Doug Whitaker, who concludes a 34-year tenure with the business. The company also welcomes Nate Gobeil as its new General Manager.

During his time with The SuperStore, Whitaker led the company through decades of growth, establishing strong relationships with major furniture brands including Simmons Beautyrest, Serta, Liberty, Legacy, A-America, Ashley, England, Mavin, and Palliser. Under his direction, the store also developed what has become the largest La-Z-Boy Comfort Studio in Northern New England, earning multiple Sales Performance Awards.

Whitaker, along with his son Tristan, was a familiar face in the retailer’s local marketing campaigns. He also maintained a consistent presence in the community, supporting youth sports programs and charitable organizations, including the American Heart Association.

“Doug has not only been a great leader within the company but also a true advocate for the community,” said Steve Kidder, Owner of The SuperStore. “His dedication and passion for both the business and the people of Chittenden County are unmatched, and he leaves behind a legacy that will inspire us all.”

Succeeding Whitaker is Nate Gobeil, who joined The SuperStore in the summer of 2024. Gobeil brings 25 years of furniture industry experience, with a background in sales management, customer service, logistics, e-commerce, and furniture design. Most recently, he served as National Sales Director at Thos. Moser. He has also worked directly on the shop floor with builders, gaining hands-on experience in craftsmanship and prototyping.

Originally from Southern Maine, Gobeil has collaborated with organizations including the TD Beach to Beacon 10K and Drive Fore Kids – Celebrity Golf Classic, crafting custom wooden trophies for both events. He also worked with Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village to reproduce a historic Shaker chair, a project featured in The Wall Street Journal and The Boston Globe.
