Weekly Bedding Sales Tip #11 - King versus Queen-Room Requirements

A comment heard often from shoppers is “I would really like to get a King Size Mattress, but my room is too small!” For the ultimate in comfort, roominess, and motion isolation, nothing beats a king size mattress set.  Shoppers looking to replace a bedroom suite have an excellent opportunity to upgrade to a King Set as they are planning to replace their headboard. 

However, some rooms are too small to accommodate a King Bed.  But when you do the math, most master bedrooms can fit the larger size.

Queen Beds are 60 inches (5 feet) wide.  Add a night stand on each side at 24”, or 2 feet and you need about 9 feet of wall space.  King Beds are 72-78 inches wide, 6 or 6 ½ feet.  Add the same 2 night stands and you need about 10 ½ feet of wall space. 

That’s great-if your shopper only wants a bed and a couple of nightstands in their room! Be sure that you allow some space for a dresser or chest AND room to open the drawers!

If the room dimensions are “just” big enough to hold a King Bed and Bedroom set, and your shoppers can’t decide-you may want to point out this:  Most people spend 20 minutes awake in their bedroom in the morning getting dressed and ready for the day and 20 more minutes at night getting undressed and ready for sleep. However, most people expect to spend 7 or 8 hours in their bedroom getting a restorative night’s sleep.  That’s 40 minutes compared to 8 hours.  The choice is simple!
