Capel Rugs Marks 100th Anniversary Year With Two Commemorative Collections

Furniture World News Desk on 12/26/2016

YORKTOWNE IN NAVY, GREEN AND RED

Celebrating it's 100th anniversary in 2017, Capel Rugs announced that it is introducing two commemorative collections inspired by ground-breaking designs from its archives at the winter markets.

NEW HOMESTEAD IN MARBLE

The first new collection — New Homestead — is a revival of Old Homestead, the first braided chenille rug ever made. Created by Capel Rugs in 1924, Old Homestead was selected for the World Floor Covering Association’s Hall of Fame in 1978.

In honor of Capel’s centennial, Old Homestead has come back to life in an assortment colors and an updated construction. Made in a new spin of fibers that mixes polyester, polypropylene and cotton, New Homestead is available in marble, vista, sundried red and fountain blue colorways.

The second new anniversary collection — Yorktowne — is an updated version of one of Capel’s best-selling braided rugs from the 1980s. Made in North Carolina, Yorktowne features a versatile rectangular shape that gives the colonial-style design a modern spin. Constructed with a sturdy wool blend, Yorktowne is available in green, blue, navy and red.

“Yorktowne was a fantastic-selling rug in the 1980s, and our reps have been asking us to bring it back,” said Cameron Capel, vice president of national accounts for Capel Rugs. “Our anniversary provides the ideal opportunity for a revival of this longtime favorite. With Yorktowne and our other commemorative collection, New Homestead, we are saluting our past while also updating two very popular designs that are perfect for today’s spaces and lifestyles.”

Founded in 1917, Capel Rugs got its start when A. Leon Capel Sr. began fashioning the raw material from his Gee-Haw Plowline company into braids and sewing them into spirals to make reversible braided rugs. As sales grew, Capel discovered that nearly every family could use a good braided rug.

“There aren’t many manufacturers in the country who have been in business longer than us,” said Mary Clara Capel, director of marketing. “Throughout our long history, our dealers — and our loyal consumers, who have been buying our rugs for generations — have been a cornerstone of our success.”

To mark the centennial celebration, Capel Rugs created the Capel100.com micro site to highlight the company's legacy over the last 100 years.

In the coming year, Capel Rugs will emphasize the theme of “100 years of heritage in every rug,” added Cameron Capel. “Going forward, we’ll continue to build on our rich heritage by introducing a steady stream of fresh designs, fashionable colors and creative textures and constructions to keep our rugs relevant for today’s — and tomorrow’s — evolving needs. At the upcoming markets, we’ll feature a variety of dynamic new styles designed to generate excitement and sales.”

At the Atlanta International Area Rug Market being held January 11 to 17, Capel Rugs will exhibit in its permanent year round showroom in AmericasMart, space 3-C-13. At the Las Vegas Market taking place January 22 to 26, Capel Rugs will exhibit in its permanent year round showroom in the World Market Center, Space A-133.

In addition to New Homestead and Yorktowne, Capel’s other featured introductions at the winter Atlanta and Las Vegas markets include:

Color Block
A customizable collection with the option to mix and match up to three colors from a palette of 12 choices, including light green, navy, black and gray, COCOCOZY’s latest Color Block collection offers a high-end, textured look that typically costs thousands of dollars for a much more affordable price. Hand loomed in India of wool, the contemporary-leaning heathered design can be ordered in any size up to 15’ x 20’.

Finesse Tower Court
An exciting addition to Capel Rugs’ popular indoor-outdoor Finesse collection and to the COCOCOZY line, Tower Court's design features modern, geometric styling in four chic colorways: charcoal, spa, capri blue and barley. Machine woven in Belgium of 100% olefin.

Glace
From the French word for ice, COCOCOZY’s Glace collection features a cool transitional design in four colorways: black cream, silver grey, crystal blue maize and garnet cream. Hand tufted in India of a wool and viscose blend, this collection marries well with Coco’s signature patterns.

Quarry
With its feeling of understated beauty, Capel Rugs’ Quarry collection captures the luxe look everyone wants right now — intricate and distressed. A calming and chic breath of fresh air, this machine-woven, Wilton Weave product is made of 100% olefin yarns in Belgium. For the winter markets, Capel is introducing five new Quarry rugs in pewter, cream, silver, fire and black/grey in addition to its existing designs and colorways: glitter, sterling, stone, moon, sand and camel.

Ribbon
Playful and plush, Capel’s new COCOCOZY Ribbon collection features an eye-catching design with colorful ribbon-like waves, giving the collection movement and grace. Hand tufted in India of 100% polyester, this design comes in three colorways: nautical, blossom and mushroom.

Savanna
Capel Rugs’ new Savanna collection creates the look of a natural woven rug using man-made fibers that outperform sisal. Pet and outdoor friendly, these versatile rugs are customizable with fabric border detailing.

Tailor Works
With a mix of mid-century and masculine styling, Capel Rugs' new machine tufted Tailor Works is a collection you can build a room around. Handsome and hardworking with a diamond weave pattern, this is the perfect choice for both home and office applications. Made in the USA of a base of 100% olefin and a border of acrylic fabric.
