Nicholstone Windsor Chair

I recently purchased what I believe to be a Nichols and Stone Windsor Chair. However the stamp on the bottom only says Nicholstone inside a circle .I think that means it was manufactured between 1923-1946.  It is painted black.  I cannot tell if this is the original color.  I have not seen the stamp in any photos on line. Could this be because of its age?
