Info on American furniture co. manufacturer in 1940-50s

I'm looking for the history of what I presume to be a furniture company called American in the 40s or 50s. I have a bedroom set consisting of a full bed, two nightstands, dresser with mirror attached. Inside one of the drawers is an eagle perched above the word "American" in script; both are woodburned; can't make out the town although it ends in "ville". Anybody run across something like this?
